"Ignite Potential expresses its gratitude to the NT Government for making it possible for senior citizens of NT. We appreciate the support to extend the accessibility of the NT Senior Citizens' Recognition Scheme to include Temporary Visa Holders. Truly appreciate your thoughtfulness."
NT Seniors Recognition Scheme (NTSRS) provides a $500 prepaid card issued each financial year to NT senior residents who provided proof of Australian citizenship or permanent residency visa. Around 15,035 Territory seniors benefit from this scheme every year. Recently, the NT Government decided to extend its support for seniors by expanding the accessibility of the NT Seniors Recognition Scheme to include temporary visa holders. From 1 July 2021, NT residents who are 65 years or older, who hold a temporary visa and can demonstrate they are a Medicare recipient, will be eligible for the NTSRS. Applications for the 2021-22 financial year are now open. New members will receive their NTSRS Prepaid Card for the 2021-22 financial year from July 2021. Previously the NTSRS prepaid card was restricted to merchant categories related to fuel, travel, accommodation, utilities, telecommunications and Australia Post Billpay. Some of the new ways seniors can use their cards include purchasing groceries, disability supplies, white goods, veterinary, car registration, repairing bores, and driver's licence costs. Eligibility requirements for the Northern Territory Concessions Scheme remain unchanged and require Australian citizenship or permanent residency evidence.
